Marathon FAQ

Is it possible to switch races?

It is not possible to transfer, change or switch to a race that is sold out, but you may transfer out of a sold out race to a race with open spots. There is a $15 transfer fee. You may only participate in the race for which you are registered. Please note that registration is non-refundable. If you are registered for the full marathon or relay you may not run the half marathon course. If you cross the finish line for the half with a full marathon or relay bib, you will not receive a medallion or any finishers rewards for any race. A correct bib is required to cross any finish line.

Is it possible to get a refund of my registration fees if I am unable to participate due to injury or unforeseen circumstances or if I change my mind on which race to run?

Please note that there are no refunds in case you are unable to participate for any reason.

If I can't run, can I transfer my registration to another runner?

No. If you are unable to run, please turn your entry back in to us. The reason most races, including ours, don't allow it transfers because it encourages scalping of entry fees in sold out races. We are unable to make exceptions because we have no way of verifying the validity of claims when we are contacted for a transfer.

Can I pick up my friend's packet at Packet Pickup?

The answer is yes, and in order to do so, please bring the following: (1) a printed copy of your friend's registration confirmation email with their signature and written permission allowing you to pick up their packet, (2) a phone number where your friend can be reached in case of questions during the packet pickup process and (3) your photo ID (for our records as to who picked up the packet).

What if the weather is bad on race day?

The race is held rain or shine. In the case of ice, sleet or snow, or other dangerous conditions, an evaluation will be made on race morning as to whether or not the race will be held. If the race is canceled, it will not be rescheduled. Refunds will not be made in the case of inclement weather cancellations.

How do I register by mail?

We no longer accept mail-in registration. Registration is accepted online. Going "paperless" is an environmentally-friendly decision that makes sense for the marathon. We want to preserve our world and our trees for future generations! In addition to helping our environment, going paperless helps in other ways. Our event is primarily run by volunteers, and moving away from mail-in registration frees our time to improve other areas of our race and ultimately donate more time and money to our beneficiary. Thanks for your understanding and help in our transition to paperless registration.

Are headsets, MP3 players, iPods, etc. allowed on the course?

Yes. Based on runner input, we have updated our guidelines on iPods and other headset devices and will no longer prohibit them. Since our course is a closed course during the term of the event, wearing an iPod WILL NOT result in disqualification in and by itself. If wearing an iPod or headset device results in you not hearing or obeying race instructions, you could be disqualified. We expect all participants to use good judgment and take responsibility for their actions should they wear an iPod or similar device during the race. We do ask that all participants be able to hear last minute instructions both at the start and finish lines, and that the ear buds be removed at these locations.

How can I find out about road closures near my home?

What happens to clothes left over at Bag Check/Bag Drop or to clothing discarded along the course?

This clothing is donated to charity. Please pick up your clothes at bag check/bag drop by 2:45 p.m.

Can my friends/family/students/children accompany me for a few miles on the course?

No one is allowed on the race course except for the paid participants, race officials and police. This is especially critical as our race grows in participation numbers. While we agree that it would be fun to have supporters run with you during parts of the race, this hinders the race for other runners, causes us to have to provide additional supplies to unregistered participants and makes our course more crowded. USA Track & Field representatives monitor the race course and have the ability to remove anyone who does not comply with the rules of the race from the course.
