For the third year in a row, Wellstone's
Dallas White Rock Marathon offers
a bonus to the first full marathon
participant to cross the finish line – with a "Gender Challenge" twist.
Here's how the works:
The field of elite women athletes
are given a calculated "head
start"
to balance the men’s and
women’s finishing times.
It
is guaranteed to be a true battle
of the sexes when the female
and male finishers coverge at
the finish line for a triumphant
victory! The first marathoner
to cross the finish line will
receive a $25,000 bonus in
addition to the $10,000 awarded
to the overall male and female
winners!
“The Dallas White Rock Marathon is a top-class marathon,” said Todd Whitthorne, president and COO of
Cooper Concepts, the manufacturer of Cooper Complete, which is sponsoring the challenge. “I can imagine the
top athletes really pushing each other toward the finish line, making the last minutes of the event more exciting
to watch.”
“Putting the women at the front of the race is going to attract a new level of female elites,” said Larry Barthlow,
elite athlete coordinator, World Event Network. “Dallas is a major, international city, and the Cooper Complete Gender Challenge reinforces Dallas as a world-class marathon and a viable alternative to other big races. Very
few marathons in the world have a challenge like this, so kudos to the board for taking this to the next level.”
Race organizers indicate that the superior caliber of elite runners attracted to participate in the Cooper Complete Gender Challenge
adds to the overall excitement around the event and
provides an enhanced marathon experience for everyone involved.
“We are thrilled that Cooper Complete is involved,” said Chuck Dannis, chairman of the
Dallas White Rock Marathon board of trustees. “The Gender Challenge is a great fit with the competitive
spirit of ‘The Rock,’ which benefits our participants, our sponsors, our primary beneficiary, Texas Scottish Rite
Hospital for Children, and ultimately the entire community.”
Cooper Complete Nutritional Supplements were developed by Kenneth H. Cooper, M.D., M.P.H. and a team of
