Runners Village Assistant

Location: Esplanade Area, Fair Park

Coordinator: Sherman Burns

Description:

  • Assist Runners Village manager by helping set up and situate running clubs, Charity Village participants and various vendors on race morning.
  • Give access to food and beverage supplies for Runners Village participants.
  • Police parking violators.

Requirements: 

  • Must be mobile to cover multiple areas within Fair Park, and be willing and able to drive a golf cart if needed
  • Must be able to read Fair Park map to navigate streets
  • Must be 21 years or older
  • Must have a cell or smart phone

Volunteer Check-in

Location: Tower Building, Fair Park

Coordinator: Charles Peyton

Description:

  • Check in volunteers for their shift
  • Provide volunteers with the name of the coordinator, directions to their post and a description of the role, if necessary

Requirements:

  • General knowledge of parking, races, Fair Park, race routes, water stops and spectator locations is required
  • Must be 14 years or older

  • Hang signs and banners within Fair Park

Water Stops

Description:

  • Set up and decorate water station
  • Prepare Gatorade
  • Serve drinks to runners
  • Clean up area and tear down water station

VIP Handler

Location: Various locations within Fair Park

Description:

  • Ensure VIP treatment on race day
  • Assist VIP runners and spectators with bag drop and parking, and within VIP tent

Requirements:

  • A general knowledge of race and Fair Park is required. All needed info can be found on race web site, Fair Park web site and will be available at info booth locations.
  • Must be 21 years or older

Information Booth

Location: Various locations within Fair Park

Coordinators: Darin Sloan, John Paul West, Kellie Richter

Description:

  • As runners and spectators arrive, direct them to start, bag drop, warming and relay shuttle areas.
  • Assist runners and spectators with directions and information.

Requirements:

  • A general knowledge of race and Fair Park is required. All needed info can be found on race web site, Fair Park web site and will be available at info booth locations. Be prepared to point out good points on the route for spectators. Departure and arrival times for relay buses to each relay zone will be a common question.
  • Must be 14 years or older

Relay Bus Pickup & Drop Off

Location: TBD, Fair Park

Coordinator: Terry Allen

Description:

  • As runners arrive before the race, direct them to the proper relay exchange bus
  • Assist runners as they return from the course and direct them to the finish area

Requirements:

  • Extensive knowledge of bus logistics and schedule is required
  •  General knowledge of parking, races, Fair Park, race routes, water stops and spectator locations is required. All needed info can be found on race web site, Fair Park web site and will be available at info booths.
  • Must be 14 years or older

Start Line Corrals

Location: Start Line area

Coordinators: Jason McGhee & John Vandeven

Description:

  • Answer runner questions about the race start
  • Direct runners to their assigned start line corral
  • Help guide spectators to viewing areas around the start line

Requirements:

  • Must be able to stand for 90+ minutes
  • Will need to become familiar with start line location and setup (information will be provided)
  • Must be 14 years or older

Bag Check

Location: Centennial Building, Fair Park

Coordinators: Paul Neubach, Mike Tonti, Jill Brooks

Description:

  • As runners arrive to drop their bags, volunteers will accept the bag with bib number on it and put bag in appropriate row according to bib number.
  • Volunteers remain in Bag Check area to ensure security of bags and continue to sort any bags not yet put in appropriate rows.
  • As runners return to claim their bag, volunteers read bib number and collect bag from appropriate row according to bib number. Volunteer confirms number on bag matches runner’s bib number.

Heat Sheet & Medals

Location: Automobile Building, Fair Park

Description:

  • Un-box and organize heat sheets and medals
  • Distribute heat sheets and medals to Half, Marathon and Relay finishers

Finisher Shirts

Location: Automobile Building, Fair Park

Coordinator: Kevin Snyder, John Diebold

Description:

  • Un-box finisher t-shirts and make piles according to race type (marathon, half-marathon) and size
  • As runners finish, volunteers will hand out finisher t-shirts as they walk up to the station where their gender and size is available.
  • After distributing t-shirts, direct finishers to advance to the food area.

Relay Exchange Points

Location: Various locations along the course

Coordinator: Nancy Scholberg

Description:

  • Keep waiting relay runners off the race course until teammate approaches for the physical exchange of the relay band.
  • Announce the race bib number of the approaching relay runner to the waiting crowd of relay runners
  • Make sure the exchange takes place within the relay exchange zone
  • Assist the finishing relay runner out of the relay exchange zone

Finish Line Crew

Location: Finish Line area

Description:

  • Prepare finish line for arrival of runners
  • Direct traffic flow of runners after they cross the finish line

  • Must be able to smile and interact with runners in a friendly, congratulatory manner
  • Must be 14 years or older

Course Guides

Location: Various locations along the course

Coordinator: Bernadette Schultz

Description:

  • Direct runners along the race course, working at intersections to make sure runners do not take wrong turns
  • Stand on the course easily visible to the runners.
  • Couples are welcome to work together at the same spot.

  • Must be 14 years or older

Non-Medical Assistant

Location: Finish Line

Coordinator: Dan Meyer

Description:

  • Work with medical providers to identify ill or injured runners in case emergency contacts must be notified
  • If runner is unable to collect belongings from bag drop, retrieve runner’s belongings if requested by runner or a medical provider
  • If runner is to be transported to the hospital for treatment, assist the medical provider in retrieving and ensuring the runner’s belongings are either transported with the runner, given to the emergency contact on the runner’s bib or other person once identity and relationship to runner is confirmed
  • Provide non-medical assistance to medical providers as requested

Requirements:

  • Do not provide any medical assistance for any reason; this role is strictly support to the medical team
  • Must be 21 years or older

Description:

  • Setup provided food and other refreshments for distribution to runners
  • Distribute food and other refreshments to runners
  • Watch for runners that need assistance
  • Assist with food and refreshment clean-up after race

Location: Automobile Building, Fair Park

Description:

  • Account for and pack remaining finisher t-shirts.  Mark boxes appropriately.
  • Account for and pack remaining finisher medallion
  • Account for and pack heat sheets
  • Account for and pack other miscellaneous inventory items, as required

Requirements: Must be 14 years or older
