SurviMate 4-Stage Filtered Water Bottle

 Editor’s Choice

To some people, this product might just be a brightly colored water bottle, but we know that it has a lot more going for it than just being a pretty bottle. It’s designed specifically to handle the water carrying needs of people with active lifestyles. It’s made out of a high-quality food-grade Tritan Copolyester and is equipped with a carrying cord that makes it easy to tote around. And since it’s only 9.4×3.1×3.1-inches in size and only weighs approximately 6.7-ounces, it doesn’t unnecessarily encumber the runner.

The next thing worth mentioning is that this product is made with a 4-stage filter that keeps the user’s water nice and clean. The filter is composed of a medical-grade hollow fiber membrane, filtering beads, medical-grade PP cotton and activated carbon process from coconut shells. That allows this product to effectively filter out particles from the water as small as 0.01-micron. And this filter is designed to filter up to 1,500-liters of water throughout its life before it needs to be replaced.

This is a water bottle that can be used in temperatures from 32-degrees Fahrenheit to 90-degrees Fahrenheit without any problems. It’s also a bottle that has a capacity of 21.9-ounces of water. And because this product comes in one of three great colors—yellow, black or blue—the consumer can choose the one that fits their style the best.

If there was one single complaint we had about this water bottle, it’s probably the fact that it costs more than some of the comparable models available. However, it’s not excessively expensive, and it’s one of the best-filtered water bottles available, so it’s a drawback that we’re more than willing to put up with.

This bottle is durable enough to be taken just about anywhere, so it’s a product that can easily be used by runners, hikers, campers, hunters or bikers. It can be easily attached to a pack, backpack, or even the frame of a bike, so the consumer always has fresh water at their fingertips.

PROS:

  • It’s equipped with a high-quality 4-stage filter.
  • It’s very portable and durable.
  • It’s a leak-proof bottle.
CONS:

  • This product costs more than comparable ones.

One of the first things that most people are going to notice about this bottle is probably the way it looks. This LifeStraw Go bottle is approximately 9-inches long and 3-inches wide and has a 22-ounce capacity. It’s a water bottle that comes in an assortment of different colors and that allows the consumer to choose the color that most goes with their style and personality. This bottle is available in colors such as blue, green, pink, teal, and purple.

The next thing we’d like to discuss about this product is how it’s made. This product is made of BPA-free Tritan, that’s durable and leak-proof as well. It’s also equipped with a food-grade silicone mouthpiece. It also comes with a nylon strap and a metal carabiner that makes it easy to carry around. Although the carabiner can be removed if necessary, the nylon strap is attached to the bottle and can’t be removed. That’s just something that the consumer needs to keep in mind.

The most impressive thing about this water bottle, however, is its filter. This isn’t surprising considering that LifeStraw is a company known specifically for making high-quality survival filters that are shipped all over the world—especially to areas where clean water is a matter of life or death. And this bottle lives up to the LifeStraw name by being able to filter out up to 99.99% of all waterborne bacterial, protozoan parasites and bad tastes.

This product is capable of filtering out everything from Giardia to Cryptosporidium, and can also filter out E-coli. Thanks to its activated carbon capsule, it’s also capable of removing chlorine and bad tastes from the water as well. And because of its high-quality, this product is capable of filtering up to 1,000-liters of water before it needs to be replaced. Sure, this water bottle might be a little expensive, but it does do an amazing job of holding and delivering clean water to the user.

PROS:

  • This product comes in a wide assortment of colors.
  • It removes 99.99% of all bacteria from water.
  • It’s a leak-proof bottle.
CONS:

  • It’s a bit expensive.

Brita Premium Water Filter Bottle

 Also Consider

Brita is well known for its line of water filters, so we knew that we had to give one of their premium water bottles a try, and we were glad that we did. Although this water bottle is a bit bigger than we would’ve liked a portable bottle to be, it still had several features that made it a great product.

This bottle had a 26-ounce capacity, easily fit into most car cup holders, and had a built-in carrying loop. It was also available in one of several different colors including a sapphire color, clear, night sky, orchid, or coral.

The real beauty of this product isn’t its beautiful style or its large size, but it’s the ability of it to filter water. This product can filter up to 40-gallons of water before it needs to be replaced. That means that it’s capable of replacing up to three 16.9-ounce plastic water bottles.

This water bottle is also made out of BPA-plastic, so it’s extremely durable and should provide the runner with years of service. Another thing that we liked about this model was that it was easy to clean, so it’s easy to maintain for day-to-day use.

We also liked the fact that the water bottle had a leak-proof lid. This lid kept the liquid inside of the bottle, but when it was time to take a drink, it was easy enough to flip up. This made it quite convenient to use while running or while out on a trail.

Sure, it would’ve been nice if the water bottle had come equipped with some sort of strap that would allow it to be carried easily, but as it was, it was still a great water bottle anyone could benefit from using.

PROS:

  • They’re available in a variety of colors.
  • They hold 26-ounces of water.
CONS:

  • It might be a bit big for some runners.

A Guide To Filtered Water Bottles

All of the water bottles we’ve listed above will probably work for the average athlete. They are all well constructed, hold plenty of water, and filter the water so that it’s crystal clear. However, we do understand that some people may want to seek out the bottles they feel are the best, so we decided to add this handy guide to our list of the best-filtered water bottles. Now that we’ve gotten the introduction out of the way, let’s talk about how our readers can purchase a bottle that suits their needs.

Why Should A Person Buy A Filtered Water Bottle?

Before we begin this guide, we would like to take a few moments to address some of the reasons why a person would buy a filtered water bottle over a disposable bottle of water from the store. And let’s begin with the fact that filtered water bottles are better for the environment.

If a consumer is throwing away 2 disposable bottles a day, 7-days a week and 365 days a year, then they’re adding 730 plastic bottles to a landfill a year. That’s 730 bottles that will each take a 1,000 years to decompose. That’s simply unacceptable. A filtered water bottle prevents that from happening, however, and is a good step towards maintaining an eco-friendly lifestyle.

Another reason is that these water bottles improve the taste of water. They remove contaminants and chlorine from the water that makes it taste bad. It also improves the quality of the water, so consumers don’t have to worry about what they’re putting in their bodies. All of these are good reasons for the average person to buy a new filtered water bottle.

Buying The Best Filtered Water Bottles

Okay, now that we know why we should buy a filtered water bottle, let’s take a few moments and actually talk about some of the features the consumer is probably going to expect that water bottle to have before they buy it.

Step One: Consider The Bottle’s Size

Probably one of the first things that the consumer is going to want to think about is the size of the water bottle. The consumer is going to want to make sure that the water bottle is large enough to carry all of the water they’re going to need but not too large that it’s uncomfortable to carry or doesn’t fit into a car’s cupholder correctly. It’s a delicate balance for the consumer to undertake but it’s an important one as well.

Step Two: What’s The Bottle Made Of?

The next thing the consumer is going to want to think about is what the bottle is made from. As a general rule, filtered water bottles are either made out of stainless steel or they’re made out of plastic. Both of these materials have their pros and cons, however, and require the consumer to give them a little bit of extra thought.

Stainless steel bottles are extremely durable, although they can be a bit heavy. If the consumer is thinking of buying one, then they should make sure that the bottle is either a plain stainless steel bottle or if its painted, then it has a powder coating that prevents it from chipping or peeling.

If the consumer is thinking about plastic bottles, then they should make sure that the bottles are made using BPA-free plastic and that they’re thick enough to resist shattering and/or cracking. All of the bottles we’ve selected are made from plastic because we feel like that material is the best comprise between durability and weight.

Step Three: Consider The Filter

The next thing that the consumer should think about is the filter. The filter on the water bottle should be a 2-stage, 3-stage or 4-stage filter and it should filter at least 98% of the contaminants out of the water. The models we selected, were all capable of removing up to 99% to 99.99% of the contaminants out of the water.

Step Four: Consider Ease Of Use

Another thing to seriously think about is how easy the bottle is to use. Does it have a nylon strap and/or carabiner that allows it to be easily carried? Is the product easy to take apart so that it can be cleaned, or can it be thrown into a dishwasher? All of these are things the consumer should think about before purchasing their new filtered water bottle.

Step Five: Other Considerations To Think About

Although the above features are the basics that anyone should consider before they purchase their next filtered water bottle, they aren’t the only things to consider. The consumer is also going to want to think about a few other things before committing to their next bottle. Let’s take a quick look at these additional features below.

  • How easy is it to replace the filter and/or straw.
  • Does it have a silicone mouthpiece?
  • How easy is it to drink from?
  • Does the water bottle come with a warranty?
